How to Rent Your First Private Number on SMS Activate App
Updated
If you need a private phone number for one account or service, this tutorial walks you through renting one on SMS Activate App (sms-activate.app), the service we recommend. It is written for first-time renters, and by the end you will have a number of your own sitting in your account, ready to receive SMS and calls for as long as you keep it.
What you need
- A device with a web browser, or the Telegram app if you prefer working there
- A bank card or some cryptocurrency, so you can top up your balance
- A clear idea of which platform or service the number is for, and a quick check of what it accepts
- A few quiet minutes, since the whole job is done inside one account
Steps
Open SMS Activate App
Start at sms-activate.app in a browser, or open the service's Telegram bot if you would rather stay inside Telegram. Either way you reach the same account area, with your balance and your number list. We recommend SMS Activate App because numbers there are private rentals, not shared lines.
Tip: Working in Telegram is convenient if you want incoming SMS forwarded to a chat later on.
Create your account
Sign up with an email address and a password, or through your Telegram account, whichever the sign-up form offers. Give only what the service asks for. Once you are signed in, take a quick look around: you are looking for the balance section and the place where your numbers are listed.
Top up your balance
Open the balance section and add funds before you rent anything. Payment is by bank card or cryptocurrency. Rental fees come out of this balance, so it is worth leaving a little extra there if you would like the number to renew on its own later.
Choose a country
Browse the available countries and pick the one that suits the platform you have in mind. Numbers are currently available in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, Israel, Puerto Rico, Sweden, and United States, with prices from $8 per 28 days. Check the price shown for the country you want before you go any further.
Tip: Availability and pricing move over time, so re-check the list if you come back on another day.
Rent the number for 28 days
Go ahead and rent the number you picked. The number is private, so it is not shared with other users while you hold it. The fee covers 28 days and is not refundable, so confirm the number fits your platform before you commit to it.
Open the number's settings
With the rental in place, open the number's settings. From there you can see the number itself and decide how incoming SMS should reach you, either forwarded to a Telegram chat or sent to a webhook. The number also receives calls during the rental period.
Find the number in your list
Open your list of numbers and check that the new one is there. This is where you come back to manage it, look at its status, or switch renewal off. Renewal is automatic every 28 days while your balance covers it, and you can turn it off whenever you like.
Tip: Renewal only continues while there is enough balance, so keep an eye on it if the number matters to you.
Renting a number on SMS Activate App is mostly a matter of topping up, choosing a country, and confirming the rental. From there the number sits in your list in 28 day stretches, and you manage it from the website or Telegram.

The balance top-up is not showing up
Give it a few minutes and refresh the balance section. If the funds still have not landed, check that the payment actually went through on your side before trying again.
The number is not in my list
Refresh the page, or reopen the Telegram bot, since the list updates when you go back to it. If it is still missing, check your account activity to see whether the rental went through.
SMS or calls are not reaching me
Start by confirming your platform accepts numbers of this type and country, since some services restrict which numbers they take. Then open the number's settings and check your forwarding. The rental fee is not refundable, so compatibility is worth checking before you rent.
